Normally I do not mind insects or spiders....
Getting swarmed by yellow jackets while trying to place food in the compost barrel was not my idea of fun.

Finding a large spider that looked like or was a brown recluse spider in the house really does not thrill me either.

    Vacation in a nutshell
It puts the lotion on its feet or it gets the hose again…..

I thought I had self control. Then I got a shit load of bites on my feet of unknown origin. DAMN (scratch scratch scratch….. “Don’t scratch”). Applied Benadryl lotion to my feet a few minutes ago- AHH. I discovered last night that Hades (the cat) does not like the smell of Benadryl; the bed physically shook when he jumped away from my feet post applying. Still have splinters to remove (though I think I got the Master Splinter ;-) )

Vacation was good. I was in RI for 9 days. Lots of good eats such as whole belly clams which are not cooked in NJ. It was fun to hang with family. Dad looks better, Ella was in fine spirits, and Beth looks like she ate a basketball (ducks).

Things done: Eating, fishing (1-2 keepers but all thrown back), swimming, exploration by car, ZUMA up the wazoo, enjoying the sun, enjoying the AC, more Eating, visiting the local medimerge and ER (which was a pleasant experience), Harry Potter and Transformers (before we left) and more. The new theme of this year’s trip was to have NO PLANS. Yup, nothing written in stone, no where to rush off to, and no time table. I think this was one of the more enjoyable years I have had up in RI.

I had fun grilling and cooking and playing with the fire (bad coals). The folks seemed to like what I grilled and brought up (sautéed shrooms and roasted peppers). The food at the restaurants was great as well, though no one’s mudslides matched mine (in my, dad’s, and Ella’s opinion : - ) ). I also found a Jalapeño Jam that I loved, and bought two more to take home.

(((( Taking this break to notice that Live-Journal now has tailored adds just at me- lovely)))

I wheeled dad around in a wheelchair in Mystic. While the one of the wheels decided it would pop its tread every time I hit a pebble, I still enjoyed carting him around. Mystic was fun at night and had some nice sites and sights. (Eating blue cheese stuffed olives from there as I type). Other niceties from RI: The downstairs had a new carpet which was pleasant to walk on. Fishing was fun: Dozens of Perch, Sunny’s, and one lone Bass.

(Out of order, But TRANSFORMERS kicked ASS. It passed very smoothly and we and the audience loved it. I believe there were 9 of us there, as well as a wide range of ages. It was fun). We went to Harry Potter. Other than some noisy kids behind us (what do you want, its Harry Potter), the movie was one of the better ones. It missed a lot, but then again, it was 2hrs + long. I look forward to the DVD.

Nothing like writing stream of consciousness… We went swimming on Tuesday. We had not gone swimming in the river for possibly up to 10 years. Just in case, I wore flip flops. I had fun swimming up river, then coasting down. I saw a few bull frogs, 2 box turtles, and a mud turtle in my travels, as well as stalked a duck in the water.
Later that night, my toes told me of their displeasure of wearing flip flops, and on both feet my large toe and the one next to them cramped. By morning the right foot was fine, but the left foot continued to be in pain, as well as swollen, red, and hot to the touch. I tried an assortment of over the counter meds, and nothing worked. It started to hurt to walk on it, so I went to the medi-merge. They said it was tendonitis, and to stay off of it. They also said to take Alieve. Well, six Alieve later within twelve hours, and the foot continued to swell and hurt. By midnight, it was hitting me with a sharp pain when I walked, so it was time to upgrade. I decided to let Mair sleep, and I was going to go in the morning. At 4:00 AM, she woke up to find me awake. She asked me how my foot was, and I said poor. She said we should goto the ER, which I said I decided that at midnight and was letting her sleep (wrong answer on my part).

We were at the ER by 4-4:30. When they saw me hobbling in, someone got me a wheelchair, and then instructed me to go into the ER (the nurse was going to push the chair, but I had fun wheeling myself). They looked at me immediately. One nurse came in and asked questions, then another. I started to describe the foot pain and she stopped me half way. She asked if I was in the medical profession and the other one said to her “With his answers, it took you that long to figure it out”; Smile. I settled on a 6 of 10 pain, and with that the doc saw me within 5 additional minutes. (Apparently the hospital still had me on file from 2000 when I went there for ear issues. I updated my files.) Ok, back to the doc; he agreed with the 1st doctor’s I saw, but sent me for X-rays. The X-rays were done within 10 minutes, and the doc stayed with tendonitis. He gave me crutches (my height, adjustable up to a person 6’6), and gave me 800mg motrin and Vicadin (bad spelling). Overall, we were in and out in under an hour. We picked up meds, breakfast for all, and went home. Friday I did my best to stay off the foot. Saturday (you can read the other post prior to this), I did not stay off my feet and thus has bites everywhere and the left is still swollen.

Sunday we cleaned up the house, packed, and came home. My AC died when we hit NY. Fun (another post for another day the issues I have had with my AC and my garage). We came home, unpacked, ate sushi, and deemed that the last meal prior to re-dieting.

Enough for now. When I get the time I will try to post more.

Cat's in the Cradle and the Rainbow bridge........
I was just in RI for 9 days, and I needed it for the relaxation. I have many a story to tell, but this one needs to be written before I forget all the details.

I woke the first morning I was there from a modern dream. It had been in the airbed I was sleeping on looking out the window. In the dream I woke up to see four of my previous deceased cats looking in the window. Then in reality I woke up and played with the dream a little. The cats were in their older forms, not from their healthier days. I thought about the dream for a little while, and then continued on with vacation.

While on vacation, I or someone there saw 4+ cats on the property (connected to the dream, I don’t know).

Yesterday we saw a large, ill cat on our patio. He or she was a black and white long haired cat, and having obvious hind quarter issues. Its fur was matted, its back legs were struggling to continue on, and it had fly issues (those who work with animals will know what I mean). It was mewing at us from the deck, and then it went between the deck and a sun-porch we have. I put some food and water out for it and hoped it would be ok. It struggled to move around on the roof, and one could track it by the flies and the smell (and my nose does not work).

Beth came up the stairs and I informed her of the cat. After some "choice" words from her, we agreed this animal cannot be left in its current state of being. The local shelter did not have anyone who traveled around on the weekend. Beth and I drove to the shelter which was 30 minutes away, picked up a carrier, a trap, gloves, and a can of food. The shelter would be closing at 12:30 (it was 11:30 when we got there). If we caught the cat, it would be sitting there to morning.

When we got home, the cat was under our flipped boat. Attempts to catch it failed, and it slithered (yes) into the woods. I did my best to follow it, but it go too far in the bramble for me to catch. I saw the poor thing lying in the mud on the bank of the river.

I went to the neighbors and asked if anyone knew who owned the cat. One neighbor went with me onto another person's property to look, but the cat was still out of reach.

I'll be F*cked before I would let the thing die in the woods.

I put on a bathing suit and swam up river to where I last saw the cat. It was still lying on the shore. I tried to get up to it and he or she went under a tree. GOOD- if it stayed there, I could catch it. I swam back to the dock, got the carrier, supplies, ET all. I Duck taped floaters to the carrier, and placed the floaters and carrier (full of supplies) onto an inner tube and swam back to the spot. The cat had moved onto the shore and was laying there. When I approached it limped into the woods. I, with a small fishing net, no shoes, no shirt, no glasses, went after it..... (to sum up the event, Bryer hurts on bare feet, and I needed to cut something out of my foot the next morning)

About 20 feet in the cat gave up. I netted and scruffed him and then went in reverse through the woods (ouch again), placed the cat in the carrier, and swam back to the doc with the carrier in tow. Mair took photos of me swimming back to the doc. I will post them later. Once I and the cat were back on land, I showered while my sister called the emergency clinic.

The Emergency Clinic awesome: The clinic said we could bring it in and sign it over to them. We loaded him into the car, and drove off. He cried a little. He really did not have any energy left to fight. The smell in the car from the cat, and the mud from the river on the cat, was bad enough that I though my sister's husband was going to vommit. We got to the clinic and they took him in immediately. We gave a donation and then waited around a bit to find out how he/she/it was doing. Unfortunately, the injuries were terminal and he was put down. The clinic washed out the carrier for us and we chatted a bit and then went home. This morning we returned the supplies to the shelter.

I feel sorry for the cat but I know it is out of pain. I also know the curse on me still continues with the finding of ill cats, or the reverse; they find me. I also ponder back the initial dream I had and wonder if that was forecasting, and they were the Shepard’s.

    Who knows?

    More to come

    Day 5 ugg
    Tired

    Settlers GOOD

Settlers Cities and Knighs- need to learn more, but GOOD

Sleeping 3.5hrs and having to go to work on it- NOT GOOD.

No weight this morning. I had food past 12 and my scale turns into a gremlin :-).

My not so part time part time job: Its interesting, 20+ EMT's, all "catty", each has a beef toward someone or multiple people. Everyone things their gods (typical). The only concensus is they all hate one employee- I will judge the person when I work with the person.

    day 4
Well, down 11 total now since Tuesday morning- it always happens- the big rush in weight loss, then snales pace. The fun part is I have not had time to goto the gym, so this is all diet loss.

Mom cat should be leaving this weekend. While I feel she would probably prefer going back to the outdoors, the person who found homes for the kittens wants to try her in a house 1st. There are a few youngins outside, including a small bit- maybe 8 weeks old. Bob says he will find them homes if caught.

Got home at 12:15, and body decides around 4:45 I had enough sleep...........................................Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

    Day 3
While I doubt I will log every day from restart till finish or failure, but I will see how long I can go.

Had Dunkin-D craving last night. Actually it was for chocolate covered coffee beans- lol.

Tempered the craving with a yogert smoothie, home made.

Lost another pound last night- Its always the 1st week you plummet, the rest is the catch up. I will see if I can make it to the gym today.

It is amazing what happens when you stop eating crap. Dropped 8lbs in 2 days. Now to see if I can cut the strings of the yo-yo. Partner in EMS went to B-king and Dunkin D's. I stayed in the rig :-). I will not say 2 days is a record for advoiding fast food, but it is a start.

    Weekend so far.......
Past 1000 comics catalogged and I have 5 long boxes and 1 small box to go (as well as comics in other boxes somewhere)

Bought Seafarers and Knights of Catan + their expansions yesterday. Local store has all its games at 20% off AND they did not jack the prices for the sale

Last night while I had a crew- 1 call, kid broke his leg dirt-biking. Good 100-150ft behind his house. He was a sport at least- had to roll, then carry him out of the woods on a stair chair.
